ALL YEARS - COMPASS COMMUNICATION
Perth Modern School is currently transitioning the majority of our communication to the Compass Platform. Earlier in the year, parents and caregivers would have received an email providing login details to Compass with a temporary Password. During the first login, a prompt to change the Password would have been issued. For all parents who have yet to login, these details will be resent very soon - if you do not receive it, please check your junk mail.
We are using Compass for all of our Attendance information, and parents can view this information on Compass and respond to the school as required. We are also in the process of administrating all of our excursions, camps, and events on Compass. For the time being you may be required to give permission for these activities on either Compass or Consent2Go, however the transition to Compass should be complete by Term 2. Payment via Compass will also be possible.
You will start to receive news items on Compass regarding your child. As we continue our transition, the majority of this information will be provided through Compass.
There is an App available in the App Store, which can put Compass onto your mobile device. This will allow instant notifications to be received from the school if there is an item posted that affects your child.
If you have forgotten your Password to login to Compass, we can reset that at school for you, and you will receive an email with your new login details. Please note our Compass login must match your email on the school system. Please email perthmodernschoo@education.wa.edu.au if you need to update your email address.
If you are experiencing login issues with Connect or Compass, please inform the administration team at perthmodernschool@education.wa.edu.au
ALL YEARS: CONVERSATIONS SERIES
Perth Modern School is excited to announce its 'Conversations Series' for Parents and Caregivers. These sessions are free for parents to attend and provide the opportunity to meet and greet other parents and staff over light refreshments. We look forward to welcoming you to the school at one of these events. See below for more details and how to book (if applicable):
ALL YEARS: FROM THE FINANCE TEAM
Contributions and Charges
Thank you to families who have paid for their child's 2023 Contributions and Charges. Please remember all accounts should be paid by the end of Term 1. Should your student make any subject changes, you will receive an amended 2023 account in due course.
Excursions/Incursions/Camps/Tours/Sports Carnivals
All events are on a pay prior basis. You are advised of the amount at the same time as the event details are circulated and the cost can be paid via the Qkr App.
Clubs
Information for clubs that run before or after school have now been circulated via Connect Messages, Daily Notices and SSO. Once your student has been timetabled and confirmed in a club(s) you will then pay for the club.
ALL YEARS: STUDENT SERVICES ABSENTEE PROCEDURE
Absentees
Parents are to provide an absentee note to the school if your child is absent for a full day or a partial part of the day.
The note can be sent to the Student Services team via the following options. You are only required to choose one method.
- Send absentee note via parent’s COMPASS – this is the school's preferred method.
- SMS to the absentee line: 0409 109 784
- Student diary – if you have one.
Late Arrivals and Leaving Early
All students are required to sign in at Student Services if they arrive late to school. Students must present a note from a parent to Student Services when arriving late or to obtain a Leave Pass when leaving the school early.
ALL YEARS: SAFETY WHEN TRAVELLING TO AND FROM SCHOOL
Be Alert
Please remind your child to be alert of their surroundings when travelling to and from school.
It is advised that students travel in groups where possible and follow well lit paths if they are travelling home from after hours activities.
Safe Crossing
Many students use public transport to and from school and are therefore required to cross busy roads around the school.
Students are to cross where it is safe on marked footpaths and islands and only when the appropriate green signal is present at traffic light crossings.
The link below has some good tips:
ALL YEARS: PARENTS VISTING MUST SIGN IN AT RECEPTION
Sign in and sign out at reception
Any parent/caregiver entering the school ground must sign in and out at reception upon entering or exiting the school grounds. You will be issued with a visitor's badge upon your check in.
Note: If you attend the school to make a payment, please go to reception. The Finance Desk in Andrews is no longer in operation.
Perth Modern School's cafe, Food for Thought, provides an array of delicious and nutritious food for Breakfast, Recess and Lunch. The Cafe is managed by Chefs Angelo Stellino and Raffaele Mugavero.
Parents are able to select and pay for their child's food through the Quickcliq App, with cash or students can use their Smartrider card as an 'EFTPOS' card.
The link below will take you to teh school website which will assist you with information on setting up a Quickliq and to view the 2023 menu.
ALL YEARS: PUBLIC TRANSPORT ETIQUETTE
We kindly ask parents to have a chat with their child about the importance of practicing good Public Transport Safety Etiquette. We've received feedback about some students not following these practices while traveling on the Mandurah Line, and a gentle reminder can go a long way in ensuring everyone has a safe and pleasant experience. Here are a few points to share:
-
Encourage them to be mindful of those around them by keeping noise levels low and using respectful language.
-
Remind them to offer their seat to an adult, as they are traveling on a concession card.
-
Highlight the importance of avoiding doorways, so everyone can board and disembark smoothly—no rushing to be first!
-
Suggest they keep school bags tucked safely out of pathways to prevent trips or blockages for fellow commuters.
Thank you for supporting us in helping students show care and consideration for others. Together, we can make public transport enjoyable for everyone!
ALL YEARS: PARKING DO'S AND DON'TS
Please use the dedicated drop off zone on Roberts Road or Subiaco Road to pull in and drop your child off in a safe and timely manner.
Hamilton Street and Mueller Park next to the school also have road side parking where students can safely be dropped off and walk into the school.
Please do not park in the drop off zones or on the basketball courts. This is for the safety of your children and so no damage occurs to cars.
We of course encourage the use of Public Transport options where possible.

- diagnosis of the medical condition and/or disability

- date of occurrence or onset of the condition
- details of symptoms, treatment or course of action related to the conditions
- how the condition impacts on the student accessing a timed assessment (examination)
- recommended adjustments, based on the provisions outlined in the policy, with reasons for the request and supported by appropriate standardised assessments.
An application for Equitable Access Adjustments ATAR 2023 is made by the school to SCSA in conjunction with the student, parents and health professionals and must be submitted to the school by Friday, 24 March (Week 8), 2023.

Additional Opportunities Within Your P&C
Firstly, congratulations to all who were elected onto the P&C for 2023. A special thank you to the Year 7 parents who have taken on a position. It really was lovely to see many new faces at our AGM this week, in person and online. There remain a few formal opportunities available within our P&C and FoM subcommittee for people with a little time to give to assist in achieving great outcomes for our school and students. These include year level social co-ordinators, a communications co-ordinator and future events co-ordinator.
This year we would really hope to see the return of P&C supported year level social co-ordinators. Before Covid-19 social coordinators prompted opportunities to socialise as a year group and provided an excellent way for families and parents to meet and share their experiences in a social settings. How can the P&C help? We can help with reaching out to your year level by including events as part of P&C information in the School Information Updates and via emails to parent contacts using our data base, provision of some access to insurance via our affiliation with WACSSO and access to others who have ideas and helpful tips who have taken on the role before. Examples of social events that may occur once or twice a term may include: catch up for parents at local cafes either after drop off or before pick up, weekend family picnics at places like Matilda Bay, dinners at restaurants on nights there is a school dinner dance/social event involving your child, bowling and ice-skating.
Please reach out and email our President on the email below if you would like to discuss any aspect or gain additional information on what a role involves.
