ALL YEARS - SUBJECT SELECTIONS ONLINE INCLUDING MOD CLUBS
SUBJECT SELECTIONS FOR 2025
We’re pleased to advise your child’s subject selections for next year will be made through Subject Selection Online (SSO). Selections will be available for students in Years 11, 10 and 9 after 4.00pm on 24 June, and for students in Years 8 and 7 after 4.00pm on 26 June.
To access the school’s SSO site, your child will need to go to the login page link in Compass - School Favourites or the school website under parent essentials and use the username/password sent to students and parents via email. SSO login emails with instructions will be sent on the day SSO opens for your year group.
What do I need to do as a parent/carer?
Discuss the selections with your child. Curriculum Handbooks describing the subjects for Middle Years 7-9 and courses for Senior Years 10-12 are on our website.
Any help that you require, from problems with logging in, to questions about the selection process should be answered by the school via email. Please note that the company that provides SSO cannot directly assist you.
Once SSO has closed and school planning is underway there is no guarantee subject selections can be changed, therefore prior planning and careful consideration must be taken prior to submitting selections. In Semester 2 some opportunity to change a selected subject may occur in Year 8 and 9, but limited vacancies can mean not all requests to change subjects can be fulfilled. In the majority of cases, students will be able to study their selected SSO subjects, and a reserve subject selection given when required.
When you’ve completed the selection process, you’ll be required to download and submit a Parent/Guardian signed copy of your SSO Selection Report to Student Services Reception, or email with attachment to PerthModern.CourseSelectionEnquiries@education.wa.edu.au
Payment for 2025 subjects is not required or accepted through SSO. Please wait for your Subject Charges and accounts to arrive towards the end of Term 4, 2024.
MOD CLUBS FOR SEMESTER TWO, 2024

YEAR 11 - ROTARY CLUB OF SUBIACO NATIONAL YOUTH SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP
The Rotary Club of Subiaco is offering one scholarship of $3000 to cover tuition and board fees at the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF).
The scholarship is open to a Year 11 student and they can select from:
The Australian National University, Canberra (6 –14 January)
The University of Queensland, Brisbane (15 – 23 January)
The Rotary Club is selecting a student based on their involvement in the Perth Modern academic community. We value both academic achievement and volunteer activities such as student council, advocacy leadership, community service, scouting or cadet participation.
To apply: contact Rotarian Shauna Kinney by email, shauna@smk-writer.com The deadline to apply for the scholarship is 15 July 2024.
After the scholarship is awarded, the student will fill out an online form and our Rotary Club will coordinate the payment with parents.
The program fee for the NYSF Year 12 Program in 2025 is $2,990. There is a non-refundable $65 application fee. Scholars will need to cover air travel -- students can talk to Shauna about volunteering at a bacon and eggs stall if they would like to raise a little to offset airfare. There is also a NYSF Access and Equity Scholarship you may be eligible for. https://www.nysf.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/2025-NYSF-School-Presentation.pdf

INTENSIVE UCAT PREPERATION WORKSHOP - YEARS 10,11 AND 12
Live Online Interactive
23 June 2024 | 13 July 2024
This workshop aims to assist students who wish to start or continue with their UCAT preparation and readiness.
Part 1 is a full-day training covering the essential UCAT skills and strategies.
A full practice test will be mailed to your home address for you to practice, consolidate and extend the exam-taking skills learned during Part 1 of the workshop.
Part 2 a 'Three-hour Follow-up Session' for students and parents will take place on a separate day. During this session, we will discuss UCAT scores, applications to Medical Schools, and Medical Schools Interviews.
WORKSHOP DETAILS AND ENROLMENT
If you are sitting UCAT in 2024
The NIE Intensive UCAT workshop can really help fast-track your UCAT preparation, especially if you have not done much work yet. Even if you have been preparing already, the workshop is a great opportunity to attain some additional strategies and to also assess your readiness by attempting an actual UCAT difficulty level trial test, which you will receive as part of this program.
If you are in Years 10 or 11
The NIE UCAT intensive training workshop is also beneficial for Year 10 and 11 students who are considering sitting UCAT in the future.
The ideal approach to preparing for the UCAT is to start low-frequency and high-consistency preparation in the early stages of senior high school years. While you can and will have to still spend some time preparing during Year 12, it would be much better if the bulk of your preparation has been completed prior to the start of the busy Year 12 schedule. This way, you would only need to spend 1-2 hours per week practising to maintain your UCAT pace, rather than spending more time on the UCAT preparation and stressing about the Year 12 work. Therefore, we recommend that you officially start your UCAT training by participating in our full-day intensive UCAT preparation workshop.
Don't forget about the medical school interview readiness!
Details of the full range of NIE's medical interview support and preparation services can be found here: Medical Interview Training with NIE
