The theme for Mufti Day is “The internet” and the charity we will be supporting is The Smith Family. There will be a range of food, drink and activity stalls available. Please encourage your child to dress up and bring small denominations of 50c, $1.00 and $2.00 coins as the amount of change available is limited. More information is in the flyer attached.

ALL YEARS - FINANCE COMMITTEE COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE 2019
One community representative position on the Perth Modern School Finance Committee has become available and nominations are now called for from interested persons with suitable qualifications. Tenure is for two years in 2019-2020. Nominations should be completed on the attached form and be forwarded to thalia.cole@education.wa.edu.au by 5.00pm Friday, 29 March 2019. If more than one nomination is received, a vote by parents using an encrypted computer program will occur. Thank you to the many parents who have paid the 2019 Charges and Contributions for their students. A reminder to all parents that payment can be made via the Qkr App, in person at the school, or by calling the Finance Office. Please contact the Finance office on 93800543 or at perthmodern.finance@education.wa.edu.au if you have any queries or to discuss payment. Statements of account will be sent to parents at the end of Term 1.

We have added a new item to the Menu on the Qkr App. You can now make additional donations to the ‘Raise the Roof’ Campaign via the convenience of the Qkr App. A reminder that all donations to the Raise the Roof Campaign are tax deductible. Tax receipts will be issued and sent home.

The Languages Department is looking for families who are interested in hosting an Italian native speaker assistant during Term 3 (or part of Term 3). Hosting an overseas university student gives families an incredible opportunity to learn and experience a new culture. Lifelong friendships can be forged and your child/ren can benefit from having extra help with their Languages homework.

ALL YEARS - SECOND HAND UNIFORM SHOP (VOLUNTEERS NEEDED)
Second Hand Uniform Shop (SHUShop) is run by volunteers, opening every second and fourth Monday 8.00am – 12.00pm during School Terms.
SHUShop sells used school uniforms and other items kindly donated by their previous owners. All monies raised go to the P&C to benefit the whole of our school community.
Helpers are always welcome and appreciated!

EVERY FRIDAY AT LUNCHTIME
The Chess Club is run by Year 12 student Maia Harlap who is a member of the very successful Perth Modern Chess team. All levels of ability are welcome. There will be a short lesson then plenty of time to play each other. Please encourage your child join the club. Students meet Friday lunchtimes in AU15.

Specific immunisations are offered free to all Year 7 students through the National Immunisation Program, including human papillomavirus (HPV) to protect against cervical, head and neck cancer, and genital warts, as well as booster doses of diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis. Each student in Year 7 has been given an information pack from the Department of Health. It includes details of the program and a consent form for parents to sign. Please ensure that all forms are completed and returned to school by Friday, 29 March 2019 even if you are declining the immunisation. The immunisation team will be at the school on Tuesday, 7 May 2019 for the first round of vaccinations. More infomation is available at:
YEARS 7 - 9 - KEEP UP YOUR FITNESS BY PLAYING BASKETBALL
Years 7 - 9 Loftus Winter Basketball teams (Terms 2 and 3)
Friends Of Basketballers (FoBs) will be nominating Under 16 and Under 14 Basketball teams to play in the up and coming Loftus Winter competition which runs every Saturday during school Terms 2 and 3 at Loftus Centre (cnr Loftus and Vincent St Leedeville). This is a mixed competition (girls and boys can be in same team). Game times vary from week to week. Total season cost for each player will be less than $350 which includes whole season player registration, game day and jersey fees. YEAR 10 - MENINGOCOCCAL VACCINATION PROGRAM
The Department of Health is offering parents of students in Year 10 the opportunity to have their child vaccinated against Meningococcal ACWY. The RAC will be presenting a Keys for Life Parent-Student Workshop
When: Monday 8, April 2019

Where: Lecture Theatre
This is a free, school and community based initiative for young people and their parents/carers.
This workshop aims to motivate young people and their parents to works as partners in the learning to drive process, while accumulating extensive hours of supervised driving practice.
This one-hour interactive workshop provides information on: the WA Licensing System – including what to expect in the Practical Driving Assessment
- the four stages of learning to drive
- tips for successful and safe driving lessons
- the role of the supervisor

MONDAY, 9 DECEMBER - FRIDAY, 20 DECEMBER 2019
The amazing and inspirational Cambodia Tour is ready to take off in December 2019. Students in Years 10-12 are invited to express an interest. The tour will cater for up to 20 students to explore the rich culture and history of Cambodia. A key element of the tour will include a five day community service component in a village just outside of Phnom Penh. The 12 day tour will depart Monday, 9 December and return Friday, 20 December, 2019 with an approximate cost of $3390. The cost includes airfares, all ground travel, accommodation, sightseeing entry, breakfast and lunch, tips and the cost for two staff to attend and supervise for the duration. The costing does not include evening meals (expect to pay $2.00-$8.00 per meal) and travel insurance. The Year 12 Drama students are proud to present ‘Two Brothers’ by Hannie Rayson. We would love to see you in our audience! This is a compelling play about two brothers who find themselves on opposite sides of the political divide. When an Indonesian fishing boat packed with refugees goes down in the Indian Ocean, they are forced into deadly conflict. This play is recommended for mature audiences.
