ALL YEARS: MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL - WACE RESULTS
On behalf of the school community I would like to wish you all a warm welcome to the 2021 school year. I hope you enjoyed a relaxing Christmas and New Year break and students are well rested and enthusiastic to start school on Monday, 1 February.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all students from the Class of 2020 for their outstanding achievements in the West Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). The Class of 2020 topped the school rankings based on median ATAR results, the fifth year in a row, and scooped the School Curriculum and Standard Authority awards. A WA state record of 72 students achieved an ATAR of 99+. I pay tribute to our students' hard work, acknowledge the great support provided by their parents and also pay tribute to Perth Mod's dedicated teaching staff in helping our students to ‘be their best.’

ALL YEARS: FIRST DAY ARRANGEMENTS MONDAY, 1 FEBRUARY 2021
Please view the document below for the first day arrangements for students in 2021. This outlines the advocacy rooms for current students.
All current Year 8 - 12 students are to go directly to their Advocacy room at 8.45am.
Due to limited parking on site, parents of incoming Year 7 students are asked to drop their child off at the school. Students are to meet at the Stokes Building between 8.25am and 8.45am. We do ask that parents depart prior to 8.45am.
New Year 8, 9, 10 and 11 students are to report to Student Services upstairs in the Andrews building to meet with their Head of Year at 8.25am.

Please remember there is currently no onsite parking at the school due to the Auditorium construction.
Kiss N’ Ride: There is a Kiss N’ Ride drop off in the Roberts Car Park and one located next to the basketball courts and the Tyler McCusker Sports Centre. Please follow the directions as per the line markings, keep to the left, pull up and leave in a timely manner to avoid bottle necks. Staff will be on hand to assist. Please do not park on the basketball courts.
The drop off zones will be extremely busy in the first week of school. This also includes Hamilton Street where some students are dropped off. It is advisable for students to take public transport to and from school if possible.
Parents needing to access the uniform shop or who have a meeting with a member of staff, will need to find street parking on Subiaco Road or Hamilton Street, or access the verge adjacent to the school oval on Subiaco Road. Inexpensive parking is also available at the old Princess Margaret Hospital site.

ALL YEARS: THE CAREERS CENTRE HAS MOVED
The Careers centre has now moved to the new Futures Centre, located in what was the Graduate School of Dance (grey building near the cricket nets).
Senior Year Students: Please see Ms Boyd and the Careers centre staff for any senior school subject changes, pathway planning, scholarship and University information.
Lower Year Students: For lower school subject changes please see Mr Staffe in the lower Andrews building.
ALL YEARS: HAVE YOUR CHILD'S DETAILS CHANGED?
It is of vital importance that student details are accurate and up-to-date. Parents are reminded that you must contact the school at perthmodernschool@education.wa.edu.au if there are any changes to student or parent information that is held by the school. This includes but is not limited to –
- Change of name and/or address and phone numbers
- Changes to email addresses (parents)
- Student medical information
- Changes in student’s living arrangements
- Changes to emergency contacts
The Uniform Shop and the Second Hand Uniform Shop are available to assist with items to be purchased.
Lowes Uniform Shop Hours
Monday, 1 February 8.00am - 11.30am
Standard hours through term are Mondays and Fridays, 8.00am - 11.30am.
Second Hand Uniform Shop Hours
Friday, 29 January 9.00am - 1.00pm
Standard hours through term are every second and fourth Monday of the month from 8.00am - 12.30pm. (Not open on school holidays).
All students are expected to observe the Uniform Policy and we ask all parents and students to support the school in this regard.

Senior Uniform
From March 2021 parents will be able to purchase the new Senior Years Uniform items from Lowes. These items include a male and female polo shirt, a plaid skirt, Music Uniform and navy blazer. The new Unform items are for students in Years 10 - 12 only to recognise their transition to Senior School. The school understands this change will occur over a transition period.
Please label all items of clothing using a black felt tip pen as we can then return lost uniform items quickly to students.
ALL YEARS: STATE GOVERNMENT MOBILE PHONE POLICY
Students in government schools are not able to access their mobile phones during class time or at recess or lunch unless instructed to do so by a teacher. Mobile phones need to be switched off and put away in school bags. Students are also not to use headphones during the school day unless it is part of a designated classroom activity. If you need to contact your child during the school day, please ring the school for a message to be relayed. Students will be able to switch their phones on at the end of the school day and check for any messages.
Need some help? Then come and see us during Homework Club.
Please see the teachers who will be available for homework support from the end of the school day until 4.30pm in the library. We do ask that students exit the school grounds from 4.30pm.

Perth Modern School's cafe, Food for Thought, provides an array of delicious and nutritious food for Breakfast, Recess and Lunch. The Cafe is currently managed by Chef Clive Palmer who has many years’ experience running similar operations.
Parents are able to select and pay for their child's food through the Quickcliq. Please see the below link to the Quickliq site and how to set up your account.

ALL YEARS: CHARGES AND CONTRIBUTIONS
A reminder to parents that the Finance Office is now accepting payments for the 2021 charges and contributions. Payment is available via the Qkr! App (download from the App store), alternatively payment can be made in person at the school or by calling the Finance team on 9380 0543. Should you wish to pay by instalments, please contact the Finance Office to discuss.
ALL YEARS: SECONDARY ASSISTANCE SCHEME
The Secondary Assistance Scheme is available to parents/guardians with children enrolled in secondary schooling who hold an eligible concession card. The Secondary Assistance Scheme comprises of an Education Program Allowance which is paid to the school and a clothing allowance that is paid to the parent.
A reminder to parents claiming the Secondary Assistance (eligible cardholders), that the application forms are now available to be completed in person at the Finance Office. The deadline for applications is Thursday, 1 April 2021. A member of the Finance team will need to sight your card when you complete your application.
ALL YEARS: MUSIC ENSEMBLES COMMENCE WEEK 1
The music department welcomes you back for 2021, with ensemble rehearsals starting from Week 1, Tuesday, for all ensembles, unless you have been otherwise informed by the ensemble director. The full ensemble rehearsal schedule is available here as well as the performance schedule.
Students are reminded that some instrumental lessons will begin in Week 2. Copies of the timetables will be uploaded to the Music Information Connect Page, and on the noticeboard in the Beasley Building. Year 7 students will be shown how to access the information in their classroom music time.
Please ensure that your instrument has a clear label/identification on it.

Year 7 2021 Parent Information Evening Tuesday, 16 February 2021 at 6.00pm
Parents with a child in Year 7 in 2021 are invited to a parent information evening at the school on Tuesday, 16 February from 6.00pm.
Please note this is a parent only event and will coincide with the P&C Meeting commencing at 7.00pm. Please feel welcome to join the P&C Meeting in the McCusker Boardroom afterwards.
More information will be forthcoming.
YEAR 7: DEBATING INDUCTION 13 AND 14 FEBRUARY
We are running an "Introduction to Debating" induction for Year 7 students interested in participating in the Western Australian Debating League interschool debating competition. The induction will be held on Saturday, 13 February 1.00pm - 4.00pm AND Sunday, 14 February 9.00am - 12.00pm in the Stokes building at Perth Modern School.
Students interested in participating are invited to a meeting in S5 (Stokes Building) on Tuesday, 2 February at the start of lunchtime.
A letter regarding the debating induction will be handed out at this meeting.
Saturday, 13 February 1.00pm - 4.00pm
Sunday, 14 February 9.00am - 12.00pm
Interschool debating will take place on Tuesday or Wednesday between 5.30pm - 6.15pm in Terms 1 - 3.
