MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL - WACE RESULTS
On behalf of the school community I would like to wish you all a warm welcome to the 2020 school year. I hope you enjoyed a relaxing Christmas and New Year break and students are well rested and enthusiastic to start school on Monday, 3 February.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all students from the Class of 2019 for their outstanding achievements in the West Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). The Class of 2019 topped the school rankings based on median ATAR results, the fourth year in a row, and scooped the School Curriculum and Standard Authority awards. A WA state record of 67 students achieved an ATAR of 99+. I pay tribute to our students' hard work, acknowledge the great support provided by their parents and also pay tribute to Perth Mod's dedicated teaching staff in helping our students to ‘be their best.’

ALL YEARS - STATE GOVERNMENT MOBILE PHONE POLICY
As announced by the State Government last year, students in government schools will not be able to access their mobile phones during class time or at recess or lunch unless instructed to do so by a teacher. Mobile phones need to be switched off and put away in school bags. Students are also not to use headphones in class unless it is part of a designated classroom activity. If you need to contact your child during the school day, please ring the school for a message to be relayed. Students will be able to switch their phones on at the end of the school day and check for any messages. Thank you for your support regarding this new policy.

All YEARS - SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY
Thank you to parents for supporting the School Uniform Policy as set out by the School Board.
It would be appreciated if all items of clothing were named on labels using black felt tip pen as we can then return lost uniform items quickly to students.
For everyday, students are to wear black, polished lace-up school shoes, per image below:
Please see the link below to view the Perth Modern School Policy.
ALL YEARS - HAVE YOUR CHILD'S DETAILS CHANGED?
It is of vital importance that student details are accurate and up-to-date. Parents are reminded that you must contact the school at perthmodernschool@education.wa.edu.au if there are any changes to student or parent information that is held by the school. This includes but is not limited to –
- Change of name and/or address and phone numbers
- Changes to email addresses (parents)
- Student medical information
- Changes in student’s living arrangements
- Changes to emergency contacts
Please be aware that the drop off zones will be extremely busy in the first week of school. This also includes Hamilton Street where some students are dropped off. It is advisable for students to take public transport to and from school if possible. Kiss N’ Ride: There is a Kiss N’ Ride drop off in the Roberts Car Park and one located next to the basketball courts and the Tyler McCusker Sports Centre. Please follow the directions as per the line markings, leep to the left and pull up and leave in a timely manner to avoid bottle necks. Staff will be on hand to assist.
See school map for Kiss N' Ride locations:

ALL YEARS - APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL EXAMINATION ARRANGEMENTS FOR WACE EXAMS
Candidates who have a permanent or temporary disability, illness and/or specific learning disability that could disadvantage them in demonstrating their knowledge, skills and understandings in standard assessments may have their school apply to the School Curriculum and Standards Authority to sit ATAR course examinations under special arrangements.
Applications can be made for the written and and/or practical examinations.
The granting of special examinations arrangements is not automatic, but takes into account medical and/or psychometric evidence plus supporting school-based information related to the candidate’s ability to access the examination. The role special examination arrangements is to provide reasonable access to an examination. Each application is considered individually, with decisions based on the nature of each examination to be sat by the candidate.
Please contact School Psychologist Penelope Radunovich on 9380 0510 or penelope.radunovich@education.wa.edu.au regarding applications for special arrangements.
