ESAFETY ADVICE FOR PARENTS
Esafety has a website dedicated to providing information on how to ensure a safe online environment for children.
There is also helpful information to guide parents when issues arise including Reporting Abuse.
Sometimes, when students are involved in online groups they may experience a situation that is not a positive one.
We would encourage anyone in this situation to seek help and this web page is an ideal space for that first line of information.
At Perth Modern we have multiple programs set up to assist students to create positive experiences online, however, should these or the eSafety resources not help your child in their situation, they are more than welcome to seek support from the Student Services team at school PerthModern.StudentServices@education.wa.edu.au
DIGITAL FOOTPRINTS
As part of the curriculum, when using the internet, we encourage students to have a safe, positive experience online and to be aware of their digital footprint that could adversely affect them in the future. Please discuss with your child their online interactions. Include in your conversations school apps like Connect and OneNote, different social media platforms, and email communications.
UPCOMING FREE WEBINARS
- Tuesday, 21 March at 4.30pm - eSafety 101: how eSafety can help you (30 minutes).
- Wednesday, 29 March at at 4.30pm - Navigating online friendships (30 minutes)
Year 7 Update
What a wonderful start it has been for our Year 7 students. Students have now had time and opportunity to settle into their classes and start building valuable friendships.
In Year 7, we encourage the theme ‘Sense of Belonging’. This will be a focus though their extracurricular activities. Students are encouraged to try new things, get involved in activities advertised via Student Notices, attend social events, and connect with their peers through the Advocacy and House program activities. Upcoming events include Movie Night and Camp, with the details being sent via Compass Events later in the term.
Here are a few photos of our Year 7 students settling into Perth Modern School life:

Greetings from the Chaplain, Natalie
It's Week 7 already and there is a pleasant buzz here at Mod! It’s been a great start to the year and students have mostly settled into the new year well without too many obstacles. Well done!
The fabulous image below that I came across recently explains exactly my feelings of how we can carry too many thoughts in our head and in turn life becomes ‘heavy’.
Additional Opportunities Within Your P&C
There remain a few formal opportunities available within our P&C for people with a little time to give to assist in achieving great outcomes for our school and students. These include year level social co-ordinators and future events co-ordinator.
This year we would really hope to see the return of P&C supported year level social co-ordinators. Before Covid-19 social coordinators prompted opportunities to socialise as a year group and provided an excellent way for families and parents to meet and share their experiences in a social settings. How can the P&C help? We can help with reaching out to your year level by including events as part of P&C information in the School Information Updates and via emails to parent contacts using our data base, provision of some access to insurance via our affiliation with WACSSO and access to others who have ideas and helpful tips who have taken on the role before. Examples of social events that may occur once or twice a term may include: catch up for parents at local cafes either after drop off or before pick up, weekend family picnics at places like Matilda Bay, dinners at restaurants on nights there is a school dinner dance/social event involving your child, bowling and ice-skating.
Please reach out and email our President on the email below if you would like to discuss any aspect or gain additional information on what any role involves.
