ALL YEARS: MESSAGE FROM THE INTERIM PRINCIPAL
As we near the end of term with the last day for students being Thursday, 16 December, on behalf of staff, I wish all Perth Modern School families and their loved ones a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. Staff are looking forward to seeing students refreshed and ready for another successful year of learning and wonderful opportunities on Monday, 31 January 2022.
Over the last four weeks I have felt honoured to have been allowed to step into such a magnificent school as Perth Modern. I have felt humbled to have been welcomed into your school, rich in tradition, with a proud history and bright future. What will stay with me the most though, is the warmth and friendship afforded to me by the students, parents and the staff.
Four weeks ago I felt like I was being asked to pilot a resplendent sailing ship; one considered the flagship and pride of the fleet. My task, as I saw it, was to safely navigate this magnificent vessel into port. I was honoured to have been entrusted to perform such an important task. This flagship vessel, your school, however, is more than a ship of fine craftsmanship and ornate carvings. This flagship of the fleet is glorious because of the brilliance of its passengers and crew. The value of this school is not in its façade or edifice but in its students, staff, parents, patron, board, supporters, volunteers and community members.
I hope I have done my job as pilot and harboured this vessel safely. Never forget though, that vessels like this were not designed to stay in harbour, they were designed to sail the open seas. They are built to celebrate a community, to give a nation pride, but moreover, to explore the unknown and enable all on-board to experience adventure. I can say with great confidence that this flagship is capable to sail safely in any waters and both with and against the wind; however, it will require everyone on-board to adjust the sails accordingly. No one on-board should try and command the winds, nor the directions they blow, only to work collaboratively to ensure you stay on course.
It is with a tear that I disembark, but I will follow every voyage and every passenger and crewmember holds a very special place in my heart.
