Please note that the School Photos for 2021 have arrived. These will be distributed to students in Years 7 to 11 who ordered them, shortly through their Advocacy Groups. For any Year 12 students who ordered school photos, these will be included in the package you will receive at your Presentation Ceremony.
PERTH MODERN SCHOOL BOARD PARENT REPRESENTIVE VACANCIES (2) CLOSES MONDAY, 8 NOVEMBER
Perth Modern School Board has two vacancies for Parent Representatives commencing in 2022. These vacancies have arisen as two Parent Representative terms are coming to an end. One position has a tenure of two years whilst the second position has a tenure of three years.
The Perth Modern School Board is made up of parents, teachers, students and members from the wider school community. Under State legislation, the role of the Perth Modern School Board is to assist the administration in the strategic governance and direction of the school.
Nominations are now called from parents who are interested in this position. If more than two nominations are received, a vote by parents will occur. Nominations should be completed via the provided online form by 9.00am Monday, 8 November 2021. Nominations must strictly adhere to the 100 word limits outlined on the form. Please note we are unable to accept applications received after the deadline.
ALL STUDENTS: THREE PIANOS AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC TENDER
Following the Perth Modern School replacement schedule, the school is offering three pianos by public tender.
Please review the details and conditions of sale in the provided document. The pianos are available for viewing at the school by appointment.
If you are wishing to make an offer, please also download the attached submission form.
Offer submissions are to be sent directly to the Finance team (perthmodern.finance@education.wa.edu.au) by Wednesday, 24 November 4.00pm.
ALL STUDENTS: NAME A GRAND PIANO KEY
The school is fundraising for our Shigeru Kawai SK-EX Grand Piano. If you are a supporter of the Music Program or would simply like a way to support the school please consider a donation to help us top up our school account after the purchase of this piece. Any amount will be gratefully received, and donations $500 or more will be acknowledged with the donor's name on a Grand Piano plaque, to be featured in the Sir Paul Hasluck Foyer. ALL STUDENTS: VISUAL ART EXHIBITION WEDNESDAY, 17 NOVEMBER
It is with pleasure that we invite you to attend the Official Opening Night of the Semester 2 Visual Art Exhibition. The evening will showcase selected artworks from Years 7 to 12 and include pieces from our incoming students.

ALL STUDENTS: CHILDHOOD SCOLIOSIS
Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine that most often is diagnosed in adolescents. The cause of most childhood scoliosis is unknown. Further information is available from CAHS | Child and Adolescent Health Service - Scoliosis . It is recommended that you see your GP if you think your child has scoliosis.
ALL STUDENTS: CHRISTMAS PERFORMANCE SAVE THE DATE FRIDAY, 3 DECEMBER
Join us to celebrate the end of year with a Christmas dance and music performance at the school.
Friday, 3 December following the activities of Charity Day and Orientation Day.

ALL STUDENTS: PUBLIC TRANSPORT SAFETY AND ETIQUETTE REMINDER
A friendly reminder to all students to practice the public transport etiquette golden rules to ensure the safety of themselves and others. Please remind them of the following:
- Be mindful of others around them and watch the noise level and language used.
- Students are expected to stand and offer their seat to an adult as they are travelling on a concession card.
- Do not congregate around doorways to allow easy access for others on or off and no rushing to be first on or off.
- Be mindful of where school bags are placed so as to not trip up other communters or block pathways. If students continue to wear their bags, please also be mindful when turning/moving on congested busses or trains to avoid bumping into other passengers.
SENIOR YEARS STUDENTS: SECOND HAND BOOK SALE
Students currently in Years 11 and 12 are invited to sell their textbooks to current Years 10 and 11 students ready for use in 2022. Book sales will occur on:
- Year 12 book sale: Monday, 29 November (8.30am to 12.00pm) in the Lecture theatre.
- Year 11 book sale: Thursday, 2 December (8.30am to 12.00pm) in the Lecture theatre.
Second hand books will also be availble for purchase during Charity Day on Friday 3, December.
Students wishing to purchase books will require cash for payment.
YEAR 7 STUDENTS: MUSIC CONCERT FRIDAY, 26 NOVEMBER
The Year 7 students will perform all together for the first time in 2021 in their upcoming Year 7 Concert held on Friday, 26 November from 1pm.
Further details will be distributed to parents from the Music Department.
Tickets will be available from Friday, 12 November via the link below.
YEAR 9 STUDENTS: SENIOR YEARS UNIFORM REQUIRED
As we enter the end of year, please note all students entering Year 10 in 2022 are required to wear the new Senior Years uniform. This includes the new male and female polo shirt and a new skirt.

YEAR 10 STUDENTS: STOKES SADLIER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP DUE FRIDAY, 12 NOVEMBER
Current Year 10 students interested in History and the Social Sciences are invited to apply for the Stokes Sadlier Memorial Scholarship for 2022. Mr Murray Harris, grandson of Mr Stokes, is the generous donor of the scholarship which commemorates Sargent Charles Stokes DCM and Lieutenant Clifford Sadlier VC.
The scholarship is an award of $500 for a student in financial need.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 12 November at 12.00pm.
In 2022 there are two scholarship instruments available to students in Years 11 and 12 2022. The quality of these instruments support students to improve and develop their skills and level of performance. The two that are available for students in 2022 are the Wrightson Cello and Cundill Violin.
Each of the scholarships requires that applicants meet particular criteria.

YEAR 12 STUDENTS: SCSA EXAMINATIONS
The school community sends our best wishes to all students commencing exams from Monday, 1 November.
Please ensure your student is aware of the following examination details.
- Students must read and be familiar with the Year 12 Information Handbook Part II: Examinations (Handbook). This is downloadable at https://www.scsa.wa.edu.au/publications/year-12-information.
- A list of materials permitted in an examination room is available in the Handbook and the front cover of each examination paper that is available online.
- Unauthorised materials are not allowed in an examination room. Any electronic devices that allow communication via wireless technology with other devices are not permitted in any examination venue. Failure to comply may result in a penalty.
- Students must check for changes to their personalised examination timetable on the student portal (https://studentportal.scsa.wa.edu.au) the night prior to each examination.
- It is essential, they arrive at an examination venue 30 minutes prior to the start time of an examination as supervisors will commence administrative procedures and explain important information before the examination starts. For a morning examination arrive at 8.50 am and for an afternoon examination arrive at 1.30pm. If students are late, they must sign a declaration form before entering the examination room.
- Students must sign the front of their timetable and take photographic identification to every written examination. SCSA has confirmed if students have no other form of photo ID, an expired passport will be accepted.
- Replacement timetables can be downloaded from https://studentportal.scsa.wa.edu.au.
- The Examination Rooms include the Tyler McCusker Sports Centre and E1. For students with approved Special Examination Arrangements the room allocated is E2 in the Embleton Building.
YEAR 12 MUSIC STUDENTS: POST SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS DUE WEDNESDAY, 3 NOVEMBER
The Perth Modern School music program is extremely fortunate to receive support in the form of two music scholarships for Year 12 students who studied music at school and wish to study music at a recognised tertiary institute. The cash payment is generally sufficient for a large proportion of fees to be met for the initial year of study at a tertiary institution.
The awards are: The Dettman Music Scholarship and The Stabb Music Scholarship.
Each of the scholarships requires that applicants meet particular criteria. While a number of the criterion is common to each, there are a number of specific criteria listed for each of the scholarships.
Please review the attached document for the selection criterion.
Applications are to be submitted to Philippa.Roy@education.wa.edu.au and are strictly due by Wednesday, 3 November 2021 at 12.00pm.
Late submissions cannot be accepted.

Help Required – Staff Thank You Morning Tea Co-Ordinator & Other Opportunities
We are looking for parents or carers who are available to co-ordinate and assist with this important thank you event for school staff notionally to be held on Tuesday, 7 December. We would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Sonya Derry for co-ordinating this event over the past few years. Sonya’s system and sign-up sheets are available to make it relatively easy for someone new to take on this role with assistance also provided from our P&C Executive.
