ALL YEARS: MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
On behalf of staff, I wish all Perth Modern School families and their loved ones a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. We look forward to seeing students refreshed and ready for another successful year of learning and wonderful opportunities on Monday, 1 February 2021.
The P&C Picnic and Christmas Concert held on Friday, 4 December was a fabulous occasion to bring the school community together in Christmas spirit. It included an array of wonderful activities and festivities including a dance concert, heritage trail tours, performances from various music ensembles, a sustainability stall and food vans. Thanks to P&C President Phil Marshall and the P&C Executive, in particular Sharon Williams, for the tremendous amount of work they put in to the event to make it such a fabulous success.
Students from the Class of 2020 will be receiving their WACE results early next week. An email will be sent to all parents with an update on their overall results and awards.

ALL YEARS - CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE
Students are encouraged to collect containers over the school holidays, ready for Term 1 in 2021, when we will run another drive. We receive 7 cents for every container, which goes towards sustainability projects within the school, including more efficient lightbulbs and solar panels.
Students had a fabulously fun-filled and relaxed day yesterday participating in various activities and competitions for House Day, with events ranging from origami and ginger bread making to bridge making and chess. All points achieved over the year were then tallied up with Downing taking the title of House Champions for 2020! This eneded the reign of Sampson which had been named Champion House for the past three years.

MUSIC STUDENTS: 2021 ENSEMBLES AND CONCERT PROGRAM
Congratulations to all music students on their achievements and performances in 2020. Looking forward to 2021, please see below the ensemble timetable and concert schedule. Please read the ensemble timetable carefully, as there have been some changes due to the changed school hours and CAP schedule.
Ensemble rehearsals will start on Tuesday, 2 February (Week 1).
Instrumental lessons will commence in Week 2, and the instrumental timetable will be published in Week 1.

P&C Picnic Thanks
The P&C Christmas Picnic was a great hit again - we were pleased to see so many families join in the activities and enjoy the entertainment.
A big thank you to our “organiser extraordinaire” parent Sharon Williams who put in many many hours towards planning and coordinating the event. And a big thank you to all the school administration and staff who helped make the evening a success, particularly the team from the music department who organised the high quality musical entertainment for the evening – it was enjoyed by all and greatly appreciated.
Thalia Cole and Brianna Peck in particular provided fantastic help coordinating our team with the school – well and truly ‘above and beyond’ – thank you!
The student stalls provided lots of fun entertainment and were very well received – we would like to thank teachers and students who coordinated these stalls, with special thanks to Tracey Enslin and Kate Holland for STEM @ MOD, Alison Soraru who co-ordinated and supported the student’s fairy floss stall, Gerard Mazza for supporting the sustainability stall, Melanie Wilcock for organising the Dance Concert and Rick McMahon and the Mod crew who helped with tables, chairs & gazebos relocation.
And thank you to students Grace Brown and Carmea Visser whose artistic talents came to the fore on the facepainting stall –these two lovely volunteers created some great Xmas designs!
Finally, thank you to all the many parent and community volunteers who helped with the countless tasks, big and small, on the night. The P&C’s success relies on volunteers, your contributions helped to make the evening fun for all.
Please don’t forget to post your photos of the evening to your year group Facebook pages so we can share.
A Merry and Safe Christmas to all and we look forward to another successful year in 2021.
Kind regards
Phil Marshall
