LET'S RAISE THE ROOF - BUILDING OF THE AUDITORIUM HAS COMMENCED!
Turning of the Sod...
We are very excited to announce the building kickoff of Perth Modern's much anticipated 700-seat multipurpose auditorium. On Monday 11 May, donors, staff, students, architects and builders dirtied their shoes with a 'Turning of the Sod' ceremony on the cleared site of the auditorium to commemorate the beginning of construction.
Top donors Don Tyler and Dr Heidi Waldron along with School Board Chair Dr Ken Michael AC, School P&C President Phil Marshall, Deputy President of the Board Peter Farr, Modernian Society President Julian Grill along with involved staff, the chief architects from Site Architecture and Year 12 Student Councillors attended the ceremony.
As a student and community hub for innovation, creativity, knowledge and fun, staff and students cannot wait to watch the construction progress and soon utilise this wonderful new venue. The project manager has flagged a May or June 2021 opening!

ALL YEARS: PARENTAL RESTRICTIONS
Due to the current restrictions in place, we would like to remind all parents to not enter the school premises. This is a precaution taken for the safety of the school community. This will be reviewed over upcoming weeks as further restrictions are lifted and new protocols have been received by the government.
ALL YEARS: SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL
Parents are reminded that students should not be at school until 8.15am, unless in a school organised supervised activity. Students who are not in a school organised activity after school but wish to remain on campus are to go to the library which is open Monday - Thursday until 4.30pm. At 4.30pm or 3.30pm on Fridays there is no supervision and students must leave for home or a parent or caregiver must collect them.
ALL YEARS: MUSIC CONCERTS AND ENSEMBLE REHEARSALS
Some ensembles have changed their rehearsal location or the format of the rehearsal due to Covid-19 restrictions. Some larger ensembles will be running in two venues, and some will have rehearsal plans put online for students to follow. Below is a copy of the latest Ensemble rehearsal timetable. Please note that the timetable is subject to change as new government directions are advised.
Given current circumstances, Term 2 Concerts have now been cancelled. Ensembles will be recorded performing during rehearsal or at designated times throughout the term and collated into a 'virtual concert' or gallery. Parents will be informed when this is available to view, so that you can see your child's wonderful performances.
All Music students and parents have been added to the 'Perth Modern School Music Information' Connect page which will keep you informed with the latest updates as they are released. Please contact PerthModern.Music@education.wa.edu.au if you are not on this page and would like to be added.
ALL YEARS: PLEASE LABEL ALL OF YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL ITEMS
Parents are reminded about the improtance of labelling your child's possessions including all uniform items so they can be returned to your child if collected by Lost Property. Please label clearly with their first and last name as well as their advocacy group. We have recently experienced an increase in lost property and without a name on the item we are cannot ensure your child's property is returned.
ARTS AND TECHNOLOGY ONLINE COMMUNITY GALLERY CALL FOR ART WORKS
The Arts and Technology Festival Week is approaching later in Term 2 however this will look a bit different this year.
The Arts and Technology Department are curating an online community gallery featuring the work and creations students have made while staying home.
Students are encouraged to think how they have unleashed their creativity recently and made something...a drawing or painting? Recorded an original song or a cover? Been creative in the kitchen? Perhaps a shorty has been written or a short story or poem? Creative mediums and possibilities are endless.
The gallery is open to all Perth Modern community members, students, parents, carers, and staff.
Creations will be curated subject to selection, deemed as appropriate content and displayed on an online gallery and shared with the Perth Modern Community for Arts and Technology Festival week.
To enter your work to be exhibited in the online gallery space, please email the following details to sarah.eve@education.wa.edu.au

- State category: student year group, parent/carer or staff
