Are you aware of the Perth Modern School Uniform Requirements?

Uniform 2019

As parents start purchasing uniform for 2019 please be aware of the following.

For day to day wear, boys are expected to wear the school shorts or trousers to school and not their P Ed shorts or tracksuit pants.

It is expected for the girl’s day to day uniform, that the length of the skirt, dress or shorts are knee length and to a maximum of no more than 10 cm above mid knee, so if purchasing for next year please keep this in mind and also allow for some growth of your child.  There are trousers available for girls as well. P Ed shorts or tracksuit pants are not day to day uniform.

Shoes – the requirement is for black leather lace up shoes, (as shown in the uniform shop). These should not have mesh, sports logos or colour on the soles or shoe. Shoes should be fully enclosed to enable students to participate in practical subjects such as Science and Home Economics.  Sock should be plain black or white ankle socks.

Students not wearing correct uniform in 2019, will be asked to change into correct uniform provided by Student Services. Those without an acceptable explanation will be issued with an infringement and may not be able to participate in social functions or co-curricular activities. Senior students may lose their leave pass privileges.

The full uniform policy is available on Connect.  Your assistance in supporting the schools uniform policy is appreciated.

Please access the link below for images demonstrating the correct uniform:

Lowes will be opening the Uniform Shop at Perth Modern School on Orientation Day Friday, 30 November 2018 from 8.00am-5.00pm.

Are you able to host an Italian Native Speaker for Term 1, 2019?

The Languages Department is looking for families who are interested in hosting an Italian native speaker assistant during Term 1 (or part of Term 1) 2019.  Hosting an overseas university student gives families an incredible opportunity to learn and experience a new culture. Lifelong friendships can be forged and your child/ren can benefit from having extra help with their Languages homework.

For more information please contact Francesca.candaten@education.wa.edu.au

Have you thought about the benefits of hosting an exchange student from China?

Perth Modern School will be visited by exchange students from our Chinese sister school in Beijing. They will be here from Monday,11 February to Sunday, 17 February 2019.  This is a good opportunity for students to make Chinese friends and learn more about Chinese culture. It is also an opportunity to make friends with the students we will be visiting on the Chinese Culture and Economics Tour in 2020. If your family is willing to host an exchange student, please email mei.li@education.wa.edu.au

Does your child like adventure?

The fabulous and life-changing Mongolia Trip will again be taking place in 2019 in the September/October School Holidays. The Tour is open to students who will be in Years 9 to 12 in 2019. The trip is an amazing opportunity to see Mongolia and meet the reindeer people.

It will involve camping, horse riding, four-wheel driving, rough terrain and freezing weather, but is not particularly strenuous. Students can use the Mongolia Tour as part of the Adventurous Journey component of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award and if completing the Gold Award as part of their Residential project. If your child is interested in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, please fill in the attached Mongolia Tour - Expression of Interest.pdf and return to val.furphy@education.wa.edu.au

There will be a parent night held on Tuesday, 4 December 2018 at 6.00pm. Please RSVP by Monday, 3 December 2018 to: val.furphy@education.wa.edu.au

Have you got text books you no longer need and would like to make some extra money in time for the summer holidays?

Year 11 students who wish to participate in the sale can bring their unwanted textbooks to the Lecture Theatre on Tuesday, 27 November (Week 8) day from 8.00am-8.45am. Year 11 Student Councillors will be present to help coordinate if required - with the sellers - the setting up of tables.

The Book Sale will operate before school and during recess and lunchtime in the Lecture Theatre when Year 10 students are invited to purchase textbooks for next year. Sellers should take away any unsold books by 3.00pm so that the Lecture Theatre can be locked up for the day.

Please note:

  • Sellers must bring their own change - Student Council will not be providing change.
  • Buyers be aware the Refectory will not be providing change for $50 and $100 notes.
  • Sellers are responsible for selling their own books - Student Council is not involved in selling for others.
  • Buyers should inform themselves about which texts are relevant to their courses of study for 2019. Booklists for 2019 can be found on Connect – Perth Modern School – Library – Booklists 2019.

Parents' Social Events

We are not making a formal booking at the restaurant – it is too difficult to gather numbers and RSVP’s.  In the event that the restaurant is full, we will move to an alternative restaurant nearby.  This is an informal gathering - come and have a bite to eat, or coffee and cake. For those parents interested, please gather at the gate where the children will board from and we will leave from there once the boat leaves at 5.45pm.  David and Rebecca Cook will be there to hold a sign up and get the group together.
