ALL YEARS - FROM THE PRINCIPAL
The House Athletics Carnival last Wednesday was a fabulous day for both students and staff, with a high level of participation in events across all year groups. Several school records were broken and the enthusiasm amongst competitors and those cheering in the stands was contagious. The Carnival is a fantastic opportunity for students to strengthen friendships, build the school community, participate in outdoor activities, and contribute House Points.
It was particularly wonderful to see the Year 12 students dressing up in costumes and getting involved in the various events. The House Carnival is a rite of passage for our Year 12 students and one of their final school activities before they buckle down for their end-of-year exams. These are the school days that will become cherished memories for them in the years to come. It was great to see and chat to so many of them, as it will be a day they remember fondly when they think of their time at Mod.
Congratulations to Parsons as the overall winner of the House Athletics Cup and to Brown for winning the Novelty Cup. Thank you to Mark Muir and the Health and Physical Education Department staff for their fantastic organisation, and to all staff for their hard work on the day. Some fantastic photos taken on the day by staff and students are in a gallery below.
Another worthwhile learning experience for eight of our students was a visit to Japan to participate in a Youth Summit as part of the 18th Asia-Pacific Conference on Giftedness in Takamatsu. The students were accompanied by staff members Dr. Kym Tan and Michael Dean. The students engaged in a science inquiry, researching either solar energy or carbon dioxide, and presented their findings. This experience not only deepened their knowledge and understanding of science but also helped them develop skills in time management, collaboration, critical thinking and presenting.
Dr. Tan attended the educators part of the conference, which brought together educators from Norway, Japan, India, Taiwan, the United States, and Australia. The conference provided an invaluable opportunity for Dr. Tan to engage with the latest research in gifted and talented education and to hear from leading experts in the field.
Warm regards

ALL YEARS - CONVERSATION SERIES SURVEY
Since launching the Perth Modern School Conversation Series in 2023, we've been dedicated to bringing you insights from experts and community members. Our aim is to partner with you in nurturing not just academic excellence, but also the crucial social-emotional growth of our students.
In 2024, we've hosted speakers including Michael Bernard, Claire Eaton, Paul Litherland, Mike Dyson, and Dr. Jane Genovese. They've addressed vital topics such as study strategies, cyber safety, and student wellbeing, all with an emphasis on balancing academic achievement with emotional intelligence and social skills. We've offered these sessions through online and in-person forums, along with Triple P parenting sessions and open classroom events featuring our school psychologists and educators.
As we plan for 2025, we're keen to hear your thoughts on these initiatives through the attached survey. Your feedback is invaluable in shaping future programs that support both the academic and social-emotional needs of our gifted students.
Please fill in the form below by Friday 13 October if you would like to provide feedback on this initiative:
