ALL YEARS - FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Caregivers
As you may have heard, the Department of Education is negotiating with the State School Teachers’ Union (SSTUWA) and Principals’ Federation of Western Australia to reach an industrial agreement. While discussions are continuing, the SSTUWA have decided to hold a half-day stop-work meeting next Tuesday, 23 April.
This means some of our teachers may choose to attend the stop-work action and not be at school until 12.30pm on the day.
Most of our staff will not be in the school on this morning. Even though the school will be open for students, normal lessons will be suspended. Supervision of those students who attend school in the morning will still be provided however this will be in the form of combined private study classes. All before school activities will be cancelled including music rehearsals and ensembles. Individual notification through the Music Department will be given to parents regarding after school music ensembles. After school clubs will continue. The cafe at the school will not be open on this day.
Normal lessons will resume after 12.30pm, however due to the large number of students using public transport to attend the school, it may be difficult for some students to attend in the afternoon. There will be no assessments scheduled on this day and students who miss lessons will not be disadvantaged.
Parents who choose to keep their child at home will need to notify Student Services through Compass so that we can monitor student attendance.
The Department is making every effort to minimise the inconvenience to our school and families and resolve the situation with unions as quickly as possible.
Please feel welcome to contact the school with any enquiries regarding this day.
Warm regards
Mitchell Mackay
