ALL YEARS - HOUSE SWIMMING CARNIVAL WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13
House Swimming Carnival
The House Swimming Carnival is coming up for all students on Wednesday March 13 at the HBF Challenge Stadium Indoor Pool. The Carnival is the first whole school House competition for the year and is an opportunity for students to compete in races and novelty events and to support and socialise with their peers early in the year. Normal school timetable is suspended on the day with all students attending. Results from the Carnival will assist in the selection of our school swimming squad that will compete in the Division 1 SSWA Champion School Swimming Carnival on Tuesday March 26. Before school swimming training is not occurring this year and training for the interschool squad will take the form of a Tri-Meet with other schools.
Information and permission for the House Swimming Carnival will be sent out to parents this week. It would be very much appreciated if parents reply to the student invitation to attend the carnival promptly. Year 7 students will be briefed about the carnival during Physical Education lessons. Parents are welcome to attend the carnival and all information will be provided on Compass. As the House Swimming Carnival occurs on a Wednesday (usual finish time 2.30pm) and students will return to school at approximately 3.30pm, students will be compensated with an early finish on Tuesday, March 12 with school finishing at 2.32pm.
Any parent with queries should direct them to Mark Muir, Head of Health and Physical Education mark.muir@education.wa.edu.au

Evan Laske
“For work, I’m a Robotics Engineer at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. I’ve been there for over 10 years now, and it all started when I was in college. I am lucky enough to have turned my hobby into a job, so I truly never work a day in my life. In addition to my work at NASA, I try to involve myself in engineering work in my off hours. That includes tinkering in the maker-space and open-source myself or working with startups as a consulting engineer.”

ALL YEARS: SAFETY WHEN TRAVELLING TO AND FROM SCHOOL
Be Alert
Please remind your child to be alert of their surroundings when travelling to and from school.
It is advised that students travel in groups where possible and follow well lit paths if they are travelling home from after hours activities.
Safe Crossing
Many students use public transport to and from school and are therefore required to cross busy roads around the school.
Students are to cross where it is safe on marked footpaths and islands and only when the appropriate green signal is present at traffic light crossings.
The link below has some good tips:
ALL YEARS: PUBLIC TRANSPORT ETIQUETTE
We kindly ask parents to have a chat with their child about the importance of practicing good Public Transport Safety Etiquette. We've received feedback about some students not following these practices while traveling on the Mandurah Line, and a gentle reminder can go a long way in ensuring everyone has a safe and pleasant experience. Here are a few points to share:
-
Encourage them to be mindful of those around them by keeping noise levels low and using respectful language.
-
Remind them to offer their seat to an adult, as they are traveling on a concession card.
-
Highlight the importance of avoiding doorways, so everyone can board and disembark smoothly—no rushing to be first!
-
Suggest they keep school bags tucked safely out of pathways to prevent trips or blockages for fellow commuters.
Thank you for supporting us in helping students show care and consideration for others. Together, we can make public transport enjoyable for everyone!

British Consulate-General Perth - Competition for International Women's Day
Be the British Consul-General for a Day (#CG4Aday)
The #CG4ADay competition is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in getting a ‘behind the scenes’ experience of life as a British diplomat abroad. Winners will have the opportunity to shadow the Consul-General for the day at the British Consulate-General in Perth experiencing diplomacy, politics and cultural exchange in action.
The competition is open to young women, including trans+, between the ages of 16 to 22 that can attend the British Consulate-General on a day around International Women’s Day (exact date will be coordinated with the winners). Please note participants are responsible for all their travel costs. To apply to ‘Be British Consul General for the Day’ please complete the questions outlined here. The competition closes at 5.00pm on Friday, 23 February.
Please read below for past participant Sophie’s own words of her experience as ‘British Consul-General for the Day’:
“The day at the consulate-general was an amazing opportunity that I highly encourage every girl to apply for. It isn’t just a simple day at the office following someone around. You have the opportunity to meet real people who tell you their stories and who answer any of your questions. The most important thing I learned from my day is that there is not one set path to getting to where you want to be and to take the opportunities that excite you. This day will open your eyes to the working world. On top of this, you will meet girls your age who are excited and passionate about the same things as you. I left this day feeling empowered and less scared by my future!”
