FROM THE PRINCIPAL: MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR
Dear Parent/Caregiver
As we near the end of term with the last day for students being Thursday, 14 December, on behalf of staff, I wish all Perth Modern School families and their loved ones a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. Staff are looking forward to seeing students refreshed and ready for another successful year of learning and wonderful opportunities on Wednesday, 31 January 2024.
2023 has been a fantastic year at Perth Modern School and it has been wonderful to see our students embrace so many of the amazing learning and enrichment opportunities available. I am very proud to be the principal of this amazing school and I would like to thank all parents and caregivers for the tremendous work and all the contributions made in helping make Perth Modern School such a wonderful place for our students.
Warm regards
Mitchell Mackay

ALL YEARS - YEAR COORDINATORS FOR 2024
Student Services Year Coordinator Model 2024
Through school planning and review, we have started and will continue to implement several new changes in the Student Services - Year Coordinator space for 2024.
For Year Coordinators, there are three distinct cycles:
Years 6-7 Coordinator 2024 - Jacqui Carter
This cycle is crucial with enrolments, transition and setting up all of the new information for students entering the school for Year 7.
Years 8-10 Mel Wilcock Year 8, John O’Loughlin Year 9 and Kathryn Chin Year 10 2024
The year coordinators in this space take the students from Year 8 – 10 and can choose to roll back to Year 8 again to allow their experience to assist in these formative years as seen with Mr John O’Loughlin returning to the Year 8 group in 2023 and in 2024, Mrs Melanie Wilcock will return to the Year 8 year group.
Years 11 and 12 – James Casey Year 11 and Jessica Lhota Year 12 2024
For the ATAR years, the year coordinators rotate though Years 11 to 12, taking them from Year 11 to the end of Year 12. These coordinators will stay in this space and rotate back to Year 11 at the completion of the two year cycle. This allows for our experienced ATAR coordinators to optimise their support for these crucial years.
For 2023, I would like to extend a heart felt thankyou to the current year coordinators for their invaluable commitment to our school community. Their unwavering support of the students, extends beyond the confines of their role and deserves boundless gratitude.
We are looking forward to a successful and fulfilling year ahead for our students under the care of all of our 2024 Year Coordinators and staff.
Mr. Matthew Healy
Deputy Principal
ALL YEARS - HOUSE SYSTEM FOR 2024
House Points System - Student Recognition
The House points system has been recreated within the Compass platform. During 2023, this was phased in during Term 3 and made visible to students in Term 4. In 2024, this will be made visible to parents through the Compass parent profile. Tally’s will be visible in the student profile.
In 2024, the school will add House Point categories for significant, longer term individual commitments. Categories are:
Category |
Points |
Behaviour and Values |
3 |
Academic values/competitions |
3 |
Community Service Hours |
10-30 |
School Subject Honours Awards |
20 |
School representation |
20 |
School Group/Club significant commitment |
30 |
Students will be able to achieve the Bronze, Silver and Gold House Awards at the end of each year via the Honours Assemblies.
The House Cup presented at the end of the year will not include the individual points, however, it will be the result of all the Team activities run throughout the year.
Senior Years and Middle Years Diploma: students in Middle Years will no longer receive the Middle Years Diploma as we no longer have the software system to track and generate the reports. However, for each of the significant categories above, they will receive a letter of recognition to keep for their records.
The Senior Years Diploma is still being created manually, however, will be modified in 2024 to reflect the direction of the Compass records system and student need. Further information on the Senior Years Diploma will be provided in 2024.
