ESAFETY ADVICE FOR PARENTS
Esafety has a website dedicated to providing information on how to ensure a safe online environment for children.
There is also helpful information to guide parents when issues arise including Reporting Abuse.
Sometimes, when students are involved in online groups they may experience a situation that is not a positive one.
We would encourage anyone in this situation to seek help and this web page is an ideal space for that first line of information.
At Perth Modern we have multiple programs set up to assist students to create positive experiences online, however, should these or the eSafety resources not help your child in their situation, they are more than welcome to seek support from the Student Services team at school PerthModern.StudentServices@education.wa.edu.au
DIGITAL FOOTPRINTS
As part of the curriculum, when using the internet, we encourage students to have a safe, positive experience online and to be aware of their digital footprint that could adversely affect them in the future. Please discuss with your child their online interactions. Include in your conversations school apps like Connect and OneNote, different social media platforms, and email communications.
ALL YEARS: BRENDA MATTHEWS AND THE LAST DAUGHTER
All parents, students and members of the wider community are invited to a special screening of The Last Daughter, Brenda Matthew's award winning documentary film.
When: Saturday, 5 August
Time: 1.00pm
Venue: Cyril Tyler Auditorium
Brenda will deliver a keynote address, then the screening of her documentary, followed by a Q&A and then a book signing. We have secured her autobiography, The Last Daughter, for a special price of $26.50 (RRP $34.99) - Eftpos only.
THE STORY
Brenda’s first memories were of growing up in a loving white foster family, before she was suddenly taken away and returned to her Aboriginal family.
Decades later, she feels disconnected from both halves of her life. But the traumas of her past do not lie quietly buried. So, she goes searching for the foster family with whom she had lost all contact.
Along the way she uncovers long-buried secrets, government lies, and the possibility for deeper connections to family and culture. The Last Daughter is a documentary about Brenda’s journey to unearth the truth about her past, and to reconcile the two sides of her family.
