Dear Parent/Caregiver
I trust that you and your family have enjoyed a relaxing and invigorating break and students are ready for the academic year commencing on Wednesday. This Information Update contains the information you and your child will need for a smooth start to the school year.
Teaching staff have returned to school today to prepare their curriculum for 2023. This morning all staff met and celebrated together the incredible WACE results of the Class of 2022. Please see the link below for a full list of academic award winners.

ALL YEARS: FIRST DAY ARRANGEMENTS WEDNESDAY, 1 FEBRUARY 2023
FIRST DAY ARRANGEMENTS FOR STUDENTS - WEDNESDAY, 1 FEBUARY 2023
School commences on Wednesday, 1 February 2023 at 8.45am. The following arrangements will operate for the first day of the new school year.
Year 7 students are to meet at the Tyler McCusker Sports Centre for an 8.45am start. Do not arrive before 8.25am. Timetables and a school map will be handed out and students and teachers will then move to Period 1. On the first day for Year 7, we advise to travel to school light. Just bring pens and pencil and a notepad for classes. Computers and books should be left at home until advised to bring them in later in the week when lockers have been allocated. Year 7 students will attend a whole school assembly during Advocacy (Period 4) along with time in the classroom with their Advocacy teacher. Parents: Please use the Kiss'n'Ride from 8.30am at the Tyler McCusker Sports Centre. Your child will be well cared for by staff.
All current Years 8-12 students are to go directly to their Period 1 class for registrations at 8.45am. Do not arrive before 8.25am. Timetables are available to view on Compass. All students will attend a whole school assembly during Advocacy (Period 4) along with time in the classroom with their Advocacy teacher.
New students in Years 9-11: Students new to the school in 2023 should meet their Year Coordinator outside Student Services, upstairs in the Andrews Building at 8.30am. Students will be issued with timetables and will then proceed to their Period 1 class.
ALL YEARS: NEW BELL TIMES FOR 2023
Below is a link to the new bell times for 2023.
Students will finish school on Wednesday and Friday at 2.32pm, and Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 3.30pm.
Student supervision is provided from 8.30am to 4.30pm each day.
The library is supervised Monday to Friday until 4.30pm for private study, and attendance is recorded.
ALL YEARS: USING COMPASS TO ACCESS TIMETABLES
Year 7 students will receive a printed timetable on Wednesday, 31 January at the start of the day.
Years 8 to 12 students can use the Compass App or browser to view their timetables online from Monday, 29 January.

ALL YEARS: SUBJECT CHANGE REQUESTS
To start the school year there will be no requests for subject changes during Week 1, 31 January to 2 Febuary, 2024.
Limited places exist in many classes and not all requested changes can be accommodated. In Week 2, the Student Daily Notices will advise for each year group when students can be considered for a subject change.
ALL YEARS: ABSENTEE PROCEDURES
Late Arrivals and Leaving Early
All students are required to sign in at Student Services if they arrive late to school.
When leaving school early, where possible parents must email permission and details school prior. If there is an unplanned departure, please call the front office and request to be connected through to Student Services. If the school has not received any correspondence, Student Services will contact parents to confirm.
Absentees
To advise the school of absences, please use Compass parent portal the Name of student, Advocacy and Reason for Absence.

2. For vacations during school term, please email Student Services: perthmodern.absentees@education.wa.edu.au
When a student is absent at the start of school, parents will receive an SMS attendance notification. Parents are to write an Absent Note in Compass or contact Student Services (details above).

Before and after school clubs are optional and will be advertised soon with more being added during the term. Attendance will be recorded for students who select to attend a club, with some clubs attracting an additional charge to cover costs. This information will be distributed via Subject Selection Online.
If your child requires supervision until their club commences the Joseph Parsons Library is available Monday to Friday until 4.30pm.
ALL YEARS - MUSIC DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
Ensembles and instrumental lessons will commence in Week 2 with Senior Wind Orchestra starting on Saturday, 4 February. Please refer to the Music Connect page for copies of the schedules and policy documents.
This year, school diaries will be issued to all students in Year 7 and Year 8.
Students in Year 9 - 12 who purchased one can bring their receipt from Campion to the Finance Desk to collect their copy.
Families are asked to familiarise themselves with the diary and encourage their child to regularly utilise it to help with organisation, study routines, assessment deadlines etc.
Diaries will be available for purchase from the School Finance Office for students in Years 9-12 who may wish to purchse one. The cost is $15. Please note only a limited number of diaries are available for purchase.
YEAR 12: STUDENT PARKING ON SITE
Please note there is NO student parking on site for February. Students in Year 12 who have their licence will be able to request a parking permit in February that will start in March.
