Public Transport
Parents could you please discuss with your child about appropriate behaviour on public transport. The school often receives contact from members of the public regarding students travelling on public transport.
- Be aware of others and watch the noise level and language used
- Students are expected to stand and offer their seat to an adult
- Do not congregate around doorways to allow easy access for others
- Be mindful of where school bags are placed so as not to block pathways or trip up other commuters.
Road Safety
Please reiterate to your child to be conscious of their surroundings and cross at controlled intersections such as cross walks and traffic lights. It is important that they only cross when it is safe to do so.
YEAR 9 STUDENTS: CURTIN RISING SCHOLAR PROGRAM
In 2023 Perth Modern School will support a pilot program of a small number of high performing Year 10 students to complete a tertiary unit of study in Curtin University’s Rising Scholar Program as a co-curricular activity. Students must have demonstrated an independent and responsible approach to study, as they will be treated as adult learners.
The program gives students a full fee sponsorship for the cost of a selected Curtin university unit per semester (some unit resource costs may apply). Students will receive a Curtin Certificate upon successful completion of an RSP unit, and it may be credited towards an undergraduate degree at Curtin. Please note that students are expected to attend school as normal, and complete all Year 10 scheduled assessments, including tests, practicals, and exams. Curtin attempts to be flexible with their timetabling; students are encouraged to consider Online courses for their flexibility. Selected units are available from the faculties of Science & Engineering, Humanities, Health Sciences and Business & Law. Students must provide several preferences as first preferences may not fit with school timetables.
Please see the attached document for further information and the required PDF's to undertake the application process.
Applications with Curtin close on Monday, 5 December (COB). Curtin will not process late applications under any circumstance.

P & C Funded School Support
This week we approved School Support of $64,319 for the purchase of new modular break-out furniture for the common areas in Stokes and Andrews Buildings. Some of the fabrics used will include designs from the Western Australian Indigenous fabric range. Samples of designs that were shared looked fabulous.
P & C Next Meeting
Our next P&C General Meeting will be the AGM held on Tuesday, February 14 at 7.00pm in the McCusker Boardroom in the Beasley Building. Please consider getting involved next year. Some of our parents who held key positions will be looking to move on with their children finishing Year 12.
The P&C is a school-based organisation with membership open to parents, teachers, students and interested citizens. The P&C aims to:
- provide a platform to bring parents, citizens, students and teaching staff together;
- give parents a chance to be aware of all school activities;
- provide opportunity to contribute to the school's resources through various fundraising events; and
- involve parents in discussing how the money raised is spent.
It also is an excellent opportunity to engage and hear the latest news from our School Executive with the Principal and/or the Associate Principal attending P&C meetings.
Please note there will also be a Special Meeting of the P&C to be held in the next two or three weeks. The purpose of this meeting will be to consider one or two funding requests that were flagged in the last P&C meeting but weren’t in the agenda. One is for the purchase and installation of an interactive screen for the Computer Lab in Gardham for $6,495. A notice will go out seven (7) days prior to give all the opportunity to participate, ask questions and vote.
All parents and interested citizens are welcome either in person or online. A link to the agenda and instructions to join online will be posted on our Facebook page.
