Dear Parent/Caregiver
I would like to acknowledge all students and staff for the wonderful Athletics Carnival last Wednesday.
It was a day where we came together to celebrate our amazing students and the talented people that we work with. Mark Muir and the Physical Education Department did an outstanding job of organising this event including the perfect weather. The part I enjoyed the most was watching all the teachers and staff working together and celebrating each other’s differences and talent. The Mathematics team were tucked away all busy and having a great time working on all the stats whilst other staff were out on the track supporting different events and building relationships with students.
The comradery and positive support of each other was a delight and I went home feeling very privileged to have been part of something very special.
Sampson achieved both the Athletics and Novelty champion trophies.
I wish to extend my well wishes to the Year 12 students as they soon embark on their final Year 12 school exams.

Warm regards
Mitchell Mackay

ALL YEARS: CHANGES TO SCHOOL TIMETABLE FOR 2023
Changes to 2023 School Day Start and Finish Times
The school day and timetable will be changing for 2023. Careful consideration, planning, analysis of school climate and consultation with our community has identified these necessary changes. The curriculum and learning opportunities provided in this new structure will continue to meet the needs of academically gifted learners; to motivate, enrich, differentiate and accelerate students to achieve exceptional outcomes. Providing our community and families with this information now gives everyone time to consider, prepare and alter the many logistical arrangements that support transporting students to and from school.
There will be two early close days on Wednesday and Friday, with the school open until 4.30pm each day for children who need alternate pickup arrangements. There will be before and after school supervised activities such as Mod Clubs, rehearsals, training and private study in the library. We are confident that these changes will enhance the learning experiences and support the wellbeing of our children. We thank you for your continued support and understanding. Any queries around these changes for 2023 are very welcome.
Please see PDF below for the 2023 timetable:

Are you aware of the Perth Modern School Uniform Requirements?
Please remind your child of the uniform standard as per the uniform policy. The Second Hand Uniform Shop is always grateful for donations of good quality uniforms, so please pass any items their way that you no longer require.
Some common errors by students, which staff have been asked to correct, are:
- PE Uniform should be worn for specific classes only (PE, dance, drama). Students should be wearing regular day uniform for the remainder of their classes including travelling to and from school unless they have Period 1 PE or Period 6 PE.
- Hem length is appropriate for school, approximately knee length or just above.
- Shoes should be all black. Following a recent change, shoes are no longer required to be leather; however, they must be all black. White or coloured soles and/or logos are not acceptable.
- Additional non-school items, such as jumpers or tracksuit pants, are not allowed. Students are requested to remove them and/or seek an alternative from Student Services.
Students who are not wearing the correct uniform will be asked to change into correct uniform. If a student does not have the correct uniform on their person, they may borrow uniform items from Student Services on a short-term basis.
Uniforms can be purchased from Lowes on site at the Uniform Shop (Monday and Thursday 8.00am until 11.00am) or the SecondHand Uniform Shop, based in Lower Andrews (second and fourth Monday of the month – with the next opening Monday, 12 September). An infringement will be given to students who are not wearing the uniform correctly. Subsequent infringements will lead to further consequences including, but not limited to, detentions and Loss of Good Standing.
The full uniform policy is available on Connect. Your assistance in supporting the school’s uniform policy is appreciated.
If you are a Year 9 parent, please be aware that from Year 10 your child will be expected to wear the Senior Years Uniform. Lowes regularly advertise 20% off sales, which are advertised on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
Warmer weather will soon be upon us and this can trigger symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and asthma. Some of the symptoms include: frequent sneezing, runny or blocked nose, itchy ears, nose, throat and roof of the mouth, red, itchy, swollen and/or watery eyes and headaches.
If hay fever is left untreated it can lead to poor quality sleep, tiredness and daytime sleepiness.
Ideally students should take required medication at home. Please ensure your child only carries a day’s supply of medication with them to school for their own use.
Seek advice from your pharmacist or doctor about medications that will relieve symptoms of hay fever.
