ALL YEARS: UPDATED PROTOCOLS FOR MANAGING COVID-19 IN SCHOOLS
Dear Parent/Caregiver
I bring your attention to the letter below from the Education Department, Catholic Education Western Australia and the Association of Independent Schools Association outlining the steps that our students can take to stay COVID-19 safe and help protect vulnerable members of our community. Cases in WA are rising and new sub-variants are causing reinfections.
If you have queries or concerns on managing a COVID-19 case in your household, please contact WA Health on 1300 316 555.
Thank you for your continued efforts in keeping our school COVID-19 safe.
Mitchell Mackay
Principal

Perth Modern School Presents
LEGALLY BLONDE
3-6 AUGUST 2022
We are delighted to inform you that Perth Modern School will be participating in the ICAS competitions again this year. This year, however, the process for students nominating for these competitions have changed. The procedure to enrol you child into ICAS is being done online, by you, directly to ICAS. If you wish for your child to participate in ICAS, you will need to follow the instructions listed in the ICAS Parents letter below:
After payment is made via the Parent Payment System, you will receive an order confirmation email, please keep this for your records. Your child will not be able to participate in any of the ICAS competitions if they are not enrolled by you online.
We do encourage you to consider entering your child into some of the ICAS Competitions if they are keen to participate as Perth Modern students traditionally do very well. We will organise the supervision and running of the ICAS tests at the school. We will notify your child of the date(s) that we run ICAS at the school and when your child’s ICAS results are ready. You and your child will then be able to access the results once released via the Reports Portal using the TAP ID and pin found on the back of the ICAS certificate.
In the lead-up to the competitions, the students that are participating will be advised of the technical requirements required on their device. For some of the competitions they will be required to download the Janison Replay Locked down browser, which is similar to the NAPLAN Locked Down Browser, which many of our students are familiar with.
We hope you consider allowing your child to participate in ICAS and look forward to receiving some fantastic results later in the year.
ALL YEARS: SCIENCE TALENT SEARCH
Science Talent Search for students in Years 7 – 12 OPENING SOON
Are you creative? Interested in expanding your knowledge and understanding of science? The Science Talent Search gives you an opportunity to learn, and compete for prizes. Competition categories are curriculum based and link directly to Western Australian curriculum.
Consider entering one of 3 categories:
- Science investigation: An investigation is an attempt to find, in a scientific way, the answer to an original question.
- Engineering: the application of Science, Mathematics and Technology to invent new products or modify existing products that benefit society.
- Scientific communication: inform the public and other scientists about science ideas. In the Science Talent Search Scientific Communication category entries can take the form of: • Science Video (Years K-12) OR • Science Photography (Years K-12). Note: students who have pursued the FameLab training are at an advantage in creating a video for this competition!
See the website for details: Science Talent Search (stawa.net)
Entries open Monday, 15 August; school submissions close Friday, 26 August.
Students can chat to Mrs Lydon or other Science staff if they have ideas. This is a chance for students to be self-directed and creative!
ALL YEARS: PERTH MODERN MASKS AVAILABLE AT THE LOWES UNIFORM SHOP
ALL YEARS: MUSEUM ASSOCIATION SEEKS DONATIONS, FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND VOLUNTEERS
Dear Alumni and Friends
I write to request your help.
Please take the time to read our brochure (below) and consider our request.
A small band of active and enthusiastic volunteers have continued their work to maintain the collection of artefacts and school records which tell the story of Perth Modern School. You can also be part of this inspirational journey through your financial or in person support for the Perth Modernian Society Museum Association.
The Museum Association was formed specifically to financially support the preservation, conservation and exhibition of school artefacts and records for the benefit of current and past students, their families and the wider community. Since 2019, we have successfully secured grants totalling $8,000 to supplement our donated funds for specific conservation and some administrative purposes. In order to develop and modernise access to our museum exhibits and collections and to digitise more of our archival records, we realise that we need to continue to appeal to the interest and generosity of our alumni and the wider community with whom we seek to honour the history and share the heritage of Perth Modern School.
We are all looking forward to another eventful and productive year. You are welcome to visit the museum on Monday mornings during the school term or consider volunteering with us.
Thank you for your continued support for the Perth Modernian Society Museum Association Inc.
Yours sincerely
Dr Robyn White
Chair
Perth Modernian Society Museum Association Incorporated
