ALL YEARS: FROM THE PRINCIPAL - FREE RAT TESTS
Dear Parent/Caregiver
Thank you once again for your continued support as we manage COVID-19 cases as they arise in the school community.
I wish to advise that free RAT tests for each student have now been delivered to the school.
These RATs will support our students to continue to attend school and will minimise disruption to their schooling. You will be able to test your child at home if they are feeling unwell. You can also use these RATs if your child is a close contact to enable them to test daily and continue to attend school, as long as they receive a negative result, remain asymptomatic, and wear a mask.
We will start handing out these RATs as follows:
- Years 9, 11 and 12: Thursday, 12 May during Period 4.
- Years 8 and 10: Friday, 13 May during Advocacy.
- Year 7: Thursday, 19 May during Period 4.
Tests are not be opened at school by students. Please note that RATs are labelled ‘Keep out of Reach of Children’ as a TGA requirement. As such, these RATs should not be opened by children and when used, must be either supervised or performed by an adult.
If your child is away when the distribution happens, we will contact them to organise an alternative collection date.
What to do if your child becomes symptomatic
Your child should stay home and be tested for COVID-19. You should notify the school if your child tests positive for COVID-19. Refer to healthywa.wa.gov.au for information on close contact definition, testing and isolation requirements.
Our new email address for all COVID-19 related information is: PerthModern.CovidSupport@education.wa.edu.au
Thank you for your continued efforts in keeping our school COVID-19 safe.
Mitchell Mackay
Principal
Perth Modern School

ALL YEARS: COVID-19 QUERIES AND NOTIFICATIONS

ALL YEARS: COVID-19 IMMUNISATION PROGRAM
The Department of Health school based immunisation program will be offering the COVID-19 vaccine to students in Years 7-12. Please follow steps outlined below if you would like your child to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at school. The team are scheduled to visit the school on Wednesday, 29 June.
How do I register my dependant for the School Based Immunisation Program?
- Log in to your VaccinateWA (external site) account. If you do not have an account, you will need to create one first. From your landing page, click on the ‘Manage dependants’ button.
- Click ‘Register Dependant’ to create a new account for your dependant.
- The ‘Personal information’ screen will be displayed, and you will be required to answer questions regarding personal demographic details of the dependant.
- You will then be taken to your dependant’s VaccinateWA landing page, where all the vaccination programs the dependant is eligible for will be displayed, which may include School Based Immunisation Programs.
- You will be able to click the “Apply now” link against the vaccination program you wish to apply for. Upon clicking this, your dependant’s dashboard for that vaccination program will be displayed, outlining the 3 steps that need to be completed.
- Complete Step 1: ‘About me’, which requires you to enter the school name and year group. Start typing in the name of your dependant’s school and select it from a drop-down list. Select ‘Save and continue’ once details have been completed. Note: If your dependant is home schooled they will not be eligible for the School Based Immunisation Program.
- Complete Step 2: ‘Health Questionnaire’. Once complete, click ‘Save and continue’.
- Complete Step 3: ‘Consent’. This step will ask you to select a Vaccination Plan, outlining the details of the vaccines you consent to your dependant receiving. Once you have selected a plan, please click ‘Submit’ which concludes the registration process.
At Perth Modern School we are exploring our values. What we value influences how we conduct ourselves in every interaction we have with others.
Values are what you believe are important in the way you live.
We are asking you, our students and community, what values we should prioritise at Perth Modern School.
See either the link or QR code below. Submissions to be made by Monday, 30 May by 5.00pm. We thank you for your contribution.

ALL YEARS: CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES
Please see attached a list of the 2022 Co Curricular Clubs and Activities that students can participate in. For further details on the activities, please contact the appropriate teacher in the list.
ALL YEARS: KEEPING VALUABLES SAFE AND PORTABLE INSURANCE
Students are reminded that valuables left in school bags are not guaranteed safe, and it is important not to leave bags unattended. Students should leave valuable items at home or in their locker.
Students with bicycles at school are requested to use a sturdy D-lock rather than the cable wire ones. D-locks make bikes much harder to steal. Student Services have purchased a number of D-Locks for students to borrow in Term 2.
Also, please register your bike at Bikelinc Australia, which helps return stolen or lost bikes to the owner.
Portable Insurance
As the school has no insurance for personal items of students, portable contents insurance, also known as personal effects insurance, is recommended and can provide a level of financial cover for personal items that regularly leave your address with you such as bags, laptops, musical instruments or sporting equipment. Some home insurance policies include this as part of the cover - please check with your insurer.
Label All School Uniform Items
Parents are reminded about the importance of labelling your child's possessions including all uniform items so they can be returned to your child if collected by Lost Property. Unfortunately without a name on the item we cannot ensure your child's property is returned. Items held in Lost Property are only held for one month and if unclaimed will be donated to the Second Hand Uniform Shop.
Lost Property Process
Students can visit AL4 during advocacy on Monday and Friday to check the lost propety. If the item cannot be found, students are to complete the details of the missing item on a red ticket. There is two weeks in which the item will be looked for, and returned to the student if found.
