Dear Parent/Caregiver, Students and Staff
You may be aware that for many years the school has been concerned about growing cracks in the walls near the basketball and tennis courts. We have worked with the Department to find a solution that keeps our students safe. The Department has advised the School that they will progress to fix the problem which is of increasing concern.
In a communication from the Department we have been informed that:
‘The Department of Education has allocated funding to repair unsafe retaining walls at Perth Modern School. It is an unfortunate part of the work that some trees bordering the oval should be removed as they are a safety hazard and will create ongoing damage to any repairs.
Before the process to repair the retaining walls commences, we wish to consult with our school community regarding the proposed removal of the trees to ensure the best outcome for the school. Please send comments/feedback for the Department to Perthmodern.online@education.wa.edu.au about the proposed tree removal by close of business 6 June 2019.’
The School, along with the Department, will investigate replacement trees that will not cause the same damage or issues. I will send all comments to the Department on 7 June 2019.
