ALL YEARS: STUDENT MEDICAL CONDITIONS
If your child has a medical condition that requires medication, please ensure that they always carry it with them. For example epipens, ventolin, hay-fever/allergy medication, analgesics etc. Students are advised to bring no more than one day’s medication to school at any time.
If there is any change in your child's medical condition, please notify the school via perthmodernschool@education.wa.edu.au
There are a number of students and staff in the school with severe life threatening allergies (anaphylaxis) to various foods, insect bites/stings and medications. Please talk to your child about anaphylaxis and encourage them to always take allergies seriously. More information on anaphylaxis can be found on Anaphylaxis (healthywa.wa.gov.au)
Parents/caregivers should remind their child that allergies can be very serious and not to share their food with other students.
A student with a food allergy should never take food from another student, especially if the ingredients are unknown.
Students should be respectful of all medications, including adrenaline auto-injectors. If a student/friend is unwell from suspected food allergen they should seek help from an adult immediately.
ALL YEARS: PUBLIC TRANSPORT SAFETY AND ETIQUETTE
Public Transport
Parents could you please discuss with your child about appropriate behaviour on public transport:
- Be aware of others and watch the noise level and language used
- Students are expected to stand and offer their seat to an adult
- Do not congregate around doorways to allow easy access for others
- Be mindful of where school bags are placed so as not to block pathways or trip up other commuters.
Road Safety
Please reiterate to your child to be conscious of their surroundings and cross at controlled intersections such as cross walks and traffic lights. It is important that they only cross when it is safe to do so.
ALL YEARS: ESAFETY ONLINE SUPPORT FOR PARENTS
ESAFETY ADVICE FOR PARENTS
Esafety has a website dedicated to providing information on how to ensure a safe online environment for children.
There is also helpful information to guide parents when issues arise including Reporting Abuse.
Sometimes, when students are involved in online groups they may experience a situation that is not a positive one.
We would encourage anyone in this situation to seek help and this web page is an ideal space for that first line of information.
At Perth Modern we have multiple programs set up to assist students to create positive experiences online, however, should these or the eSafety resources not help your child in their situation, they are more than welcome to seek support from the Student Services team at school PerthModern.StudentServices@education.wa.edu.au
DIGITAL FOOTPRINTS
As part of the curriculum, when using the internet, we encourage students to have a safe, positive experience online and to be aware of their digital footprint that could adversely affect them in the future. Please discuss with your child their online interactions. Include in your conversations school apps like Connect and OneNote, different social media platforms, and email communications.

For public schools, the Educational Program Allowance (EPA) of $235 for students in Years 7 to 10 will be paid to the school and will be applied towards the voluntary contribution. Any balance will be applied against charges or as negotiated with the parent/guardian. For students in Years 11 to 12 the EPA will be applied to cover charges in the first instance.
How to Apply
Application forms are available at Secondary Schools. Students or parents need to provide proof of eligibility and a school officer needs to witness the application form. Applications close 8 April 2022.
Eligibility
Available to parents/guardians of secondary students if the parent is a holder of: Pensioner Concession Card, or Health Care Card (Not children’s concession card which has been issued for medical purposes) or Department of Veterans Affairs Pensioner Concession Card. Eligible parents/guardians that home school their children can also apply through their Education Regional Office. Parents of students in receipt of Department of Human Services (Centrelink) ABSTUDY are only eligible for the ABSTUDY Supplement Allowance.
Label All School Uniform Items
Parents are reminded about the importance of labelling your child's possessions including all uniform items so they can be returned to your child if collected by Lost Property. Please label clearly with their first and last name as well as their advocacy group. Unfortunately without a name on the item we cannot ensure your child's property is returned. Items held in Lost Property are only held for one month and if uniform items have not been collected they will then be donated to the Second Hand Uniform Shop.
Lost Property Process
Students can visit AL4 during advocacy on Monday and Friday to check the lost propety. If the item cannot be found, students are to complete the details of the missing item on a red ticket. The item will be checked for over two weeks and returned to the student if found.

Students with bicycles at school are requested to use a sturdy D-lock rather than the cable wire ones. D-locks make bikes much harder to steal. Student Services have purchased a number of D-Locks for students to borrow in Term 2.
Also, please register your bike at Bikelinc Australia, which helps return stolen or lost bikes to the owner.
